Whilst we quickly out grew Maggie-Jane and never used her for what she was designed for, we have to remember that it was because she was a trailer
sailer, that we got to take her to the Netherlands and that is how we are where we are today. So we owe a lot to the humble Mac 26X. Even more so
we owe a lot to Maggie-Jane. We had a lot of fun with her, especially in the Veerse Meer. The fact that we could lift her centre board enabled us
to go into some very shallow waters and we even spent a night at anchor on her, something it took several years before we achieved on Emjaytoo.
Maggie-Jane was our first "big" boat, after various racing and cruising
dinghies.
She was a MacGregor 26X - a water ballasted trailer sailer. They come
in for a lot of stick, and some of it is deserved. However, one has to remember what they are designed to be - an easily trailed motor sailer at a
cheap price. On that premise, they do what it says on the tin!
